Initiatives and Case Studies
White Goods Repair Data Project 2022
In 2022, WEEE Ireland commissioned the consultancy dss+ to survey White Goods Association's members and other home appliances producers on the Irish market in relation to their repair activity (reference year 2020). The aim of this study was to better understand and measure the repair initiatives already in place in Ireland.
WEEE Ireland Initiative / Producer / WEEE Ireland & Partners / Fridge & Freezers / Other Large Equipment / Repair
|Companies Surveyed||around 65% of the LHA and C&F Irish POM|
|Estimated number of Products Repaired in 2020||132,767 (95.6% of the requests for repair)|
|Proportion of requests for repairs that lead to replacement||around 5%|
Commissioned by WEEE Ireland and ERP on behalf of their Members, this survey highlights the current place and role of repair activities within the home appliances sector in the Republic of Ireland.
Members of the White Goods Association and other producers of home appliances on the Irish market were surveyed by the consultancy dss+ who also acted as a blackbox function to ensure confidentiality of the commercially sensitive information provided.
The survey explored a number of topics including:
- job creation in the repair & reuse sectors,
- amount of requests for repair and actual repairs,
- product replacements & spare parts
- repair costs
Results were presented to the public during WEEE Ireland’s Circular Vision webinar White Goods Repair for a Circular Economy on the 16th June 2022.
