Farm Fence Batteries
As a retailer of batteries and/or electrical products you have obligations under the Batteries and WEEE Regulations. Some of the main requirements are;

Providing free in store take back for customers of waste electrical items on a one for one, like for like basis to customers.

Providing free in store take back of batteries similar in function to those sold in the store with no purchase necessary.

Erecting approved signage in store to inform your customers of the free battery and/or electrical recycling and take back in store.

Registering as a retailer in order to gain exemption from requiring a permit for the storage & transport of waste EEE and batteries. WEEE Ireland provides this service free of charge. Complete the Retailer Registration Form and Declaration (to the right of the screen) and email to retailer@weeeireland.ie
WEEE Ireland can provide retailers with a complete compliance package once they sign up to the Waste Farm Fence Battery Collection Scheme. The scheme will provide information packs, followed by details of a designated licensed recycling contractor who will collect waste batteries from your store. These packs are available from your WEEE Ireland farm fence battery producer or for download in the column to the right.
What do you have to do?
Simply follow the steps below to join the WEEE Ireland Waste Farm Fence Battery Collection System and to help you comply with distributor/retailer obligations under the current Battery Regulations (SI 268).
Step 1: Complete the application form (opposite) to avail of WEEE Ireland’s
FREE Waste Battery Collection Scheme
Return this to WEEE Ireland, Suite 18, The Mall, Beacon Court,

or Email: info@weeeireland.ie
Step 2: On receipt of the above WEEE Ireland will issue you with details of your
designated waste battery contractor. Keep a record of this contractor in
your store for future collections.
Step 3: Erect the relevant legal poster (opposite) included in this pack within 1
metre of the point of sale or, as appropriate, display of batteries.
Step 4: Make the WEEE & battery recycling information leaflets available to the
consumer.
Step 5: Store all waste farm fence batteries on a pallet in a weather proof area
if possible.
Step 6: When you have one or more pallets of farm fence batteries* you can
contact the designated contractor for a collection.
*A pallet constitutes minimum 20 farm fence batteries which must be neatly stacked on a pallet and shrink wrapped where possible.
