History

WEEE Ireland is a not for profit organisation, incorporated in November 2004.

Our mission is to provide a cost effective solution to consumers and producers who place WEEE on the Irish market, in meeting their obligations of the WEEE Regulations 2005 and a recycling solution for consumers also.

WEEE Ireland was approved by the Minister of Environment on 2 August 2005 to operate a Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Compliance Scheme on behalf of the producers of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) who place EEE on the Irish market.

Our compliance scheme for producers of household consumer EEE (B2C) covers all ten sectors of B2C compliance as defined in the regulations, with particular focus on categories 1- 6.

Provision for inclusion of Environmental Management Cost (EMC's) in the retail price of Electrical and Electronic Equipment was introduced in the Regulations in August 2005. It is a condition of approval of WEEE Ireland's compliance scheme that its members must apply and show a visible environmental management cost (vEMC) where that sector has been assigned a vEMC by the WEEE Register Society.

WEEE Ireland has over 500 members, which represents approximately 80% of the total weight of EEE placed on the market.

With the introduction of the Waste Management (Batteries and Accumulators) Regulations in 2008, WEEE Ireland also offers compliance for producers of batteries.
