Alupro Ireland, IKEA and WEEE Ireland Launch Tea light Campaign

September 24, 2015

Today, 22nd September, Alupro Ireland, IKEA and WEEE Ireland officially launched their tea light campaign in Dublin. The campaign aims to encourage school kids and consumers to recycle the tea light holders at IKEA once they have been used.

IKEA Dublin alone sell almost 52,000 tea lights per year which if recycled would light almost 10,000 homes for 2 hours. Tea lights are one their bestselling products, given their affordability and ability to create an instant ambience, year round. Their growing popularity means that there are millions small aluminum containers being disposed of each year.

Alupro Ireland manager, Karen Mahon, said “Recycling the aluminum from the tea light holder corresponds to an equivalent energy saving to that used by a 40-watt light bulb for two hours. It’s therefore worth the effort to get this recyclable material back in the value chain.”

tealights-recycleGrainne Breen, Regional Sustainability Change Leader, IKEA says , “IKEA Dublin are delighted to part of this campaign and we look forward to working with Alupro Ireland, and WEEE Ireland on this initiative. Sustainability is at the core of everything that we do at IKEA from the build and operation of our stores to the manufacturing of our products. We strive to build and maintain sustainable relationships with suppliers, IKEA co-workers and to work with global and local organisations such as Alupro Ireland and WEEE Ireland who are interested in the areas of environment and social responsibility”.

With sustainability always in focus at IKEA, consumers are also being encouraged to recycle their used tea light holders, either in their green recycling bin at home or at a deposit bin at IKEA, Dublin. For further information, please visit www.ikea.com/ie/en/
